Drop in Boston University's Overall Acceptance Rate to 10.7%

On March 25, 2023, Boston University (BU) will send out notifications to applicants who applied through Regular Decisions. This admissions cycle has been exceptionally challenging for BU, as they received a staggering 80,492 applications for only 3,100 seats in their first-year class. According to Kelly A. Walter, BU's Associate Vice President for Enrollment & Dean of Admissions, they had to make some extremely difficult decisions regarding which applicants to admit.

BU's acceptance rate for the 2022-2023 admissions cycle plummeted to 10.7%, compared to last year's rate of approximately 14%, despite receiving a similar number of applications. Walter explained that because they have been significantly overenrolled for the past two years, they needed to plan for yet another increase in yield. As a result, they were forced to substantially reduce the number of students they offered admission to.

During this admissions cycle, BU's Early Decision acceptance rate was around 25%.
