Northwestern University Announces Regular Decision Results and Class of 2027 Statistics

Northwestern University announced their Regular Decision selections on Friday, March 24. Liz Kinsley, Northwestern's Associate Dean & Director of Undergraduate Admission, shared that the university had evaluated over 52,000 first-year applications from over 10,000 high schools worldwide, with only approximately 2,100 students being accepted into the class. In comparison to last year, Northwestern reviewed 51,554 applications.

Northwestern admitted about 50% of the incoming Class of 2027 through Early Decision, resulting in an overall acceptance rate of roughly 7%. The Fall 2022 Early Decision applicant pool for Northwestern grew by 3.5%, reaching just over 5,200 applicants, and the Early Decision acceptance rate now stands at around 20%. Additionally, Northwestern experienced an increase in the number of secondary schools represented by ED applicants, with a 22% overall rise and a 25% increase in the representation of U.S. public schools.

Accepted Regular Decision students have until May 1 to confirm their offer and take official steps toward enrolling in the Class of 2027. Northwestern's Admitted Student Website and an admit packet will outline the necessary steps. Those who have been placed on Northwestern's waitlist have until May 1 to accept their spot. Before April 15, waitlisted students who accept a spot will be asked to reconfirm their interest in the waitlist; the university will contact them via email with instructions. Northwestern's waitlist is not ranked, and students on the waitlist can contact the admissions office if they are still interested in attending. Any additional materials can be uploaded via the applicant portal or sent through email.

On a different note, Northwestern confirmed that it will maintain its test-optional policy for the 2023-2024 admissions cycle, informing high school students in the Class of 2024.
